Sieves are used for gradation test performed on a sample of aggregate in a laboratory. A typical sieve analysis involves a nested column of sieves with wire mesh cloth (screen). Sieve analysis test is a procedure to separate fine material from coarse material by means of series of woven or perforated surfaces. The proportion of different size particles are recorded. Stainless steel has high resistance to corrosion and chemical attack, hence stainless steel wire is used for standard mesh type sieves with200 mm diameter frames.
